Bookstore Manager

Hiram College has an immediate opening for a Bookstore Manager.  The Bookstore Manager has the primary responsibility for managing and overseeing all aspects of daily bookstore operations.  Responsibilities include financial oversight and management of sales operations, gross margin, inventory management and accounts payable and receivable.

Candidates for the Bookstore Manager position should possess strong analytical and problem solving skills and have the ability to be creative and innovative in a retail environment.  They must be adept in the use of Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel) and be able to work in or learn other relevant software applications. Experience with Follett Courseworks and SCT Banner is desired. They should also have excellent managerial, supervisory, and communications skills.  Candidates should enjoy close work with students, staff and faculty.  A strong commitment to excellent customer service is a must.

A Bachelor's degree is required. College Editor

Hiram College invites applications for the position of College Editor.  Reporting to the Director of College Relations, the editor works as part of a communication team that helps the College connect with its many audiences. Responsibilities include writing and editing copy for a wide variety of marketing materials, including publications for the offices of Admission, Development, Alumni and the Weekend College; crafting copy for the Hiram College website and a weekly electronic newsletter; and serving as the editor of Hiram’s three-times-a-year alumni magazine.

The successful candidate will have excellent writing and editing skills; experience handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment; the ability to produce sophisticated and compelling copy for quality publications under deadline pressure; and a willingness to participate in the life of the College.  Previous experience in higher education, particularly at a selective institution, is a plus. A bachelor’s degree is required. A minimum of five years experience as a writer and editor is strongly preferred.

Research Teaching Associate

The Department of Biology at Hiram College is seeking applications for a new staff position that will be involved in the development and teaching of laboratories in biochemistry, molecular & cellular biology, and possibly other courses.  Hiram College is undergoing a major expansion in the life sciences focused around three Centers of Excellence (Literature and Medicine, Deciphering Life’s Language, and Study of Nature and Society) and the involvement of undergraduates in research both within and beyond courses.  Many of our courses involve staff members in the lab component and these individuals are crucial teammates for the successful implementation of our program - providing creativity and behind-the-scenes work to strengthen research-driven components of courses.  They can also serve as research mentors for summer research students, and help with outreach efforts.

A Masters degree in biology or another relevant biology-related discipline and some experience in teaching laboratories are required.  This is a 12-month staff position with a competitive salary and benefits package.  Some experience in biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as an ability to work well with faculty on designing and implementing labs, are essential to success in this position.

Coordinator of Campus Safety Services

Hiram College is seeking applications for the position of Coordinator of Campus Safety. This is a full time, 12 month, professional staff position. This position requires the coordination of all aspects of a comprehensive campus safety program designed to protect, to educate and to communicate with all members of the college and surrounding community.  This position requires supervision of campus safety officers, technical specialist, an administrative assistant and student employees.  The coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Students.

Laundry Assistant

Hiram College has an employment opportunity for a part-time Laundry Attendant. Responsibilities include sorting, washing, drying, ironing and folding laundry, as well as logging and preparing laundry orders for delivery.  Applicants will need to have a pleasant personality, be dependable and follow directions as assigned.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to use heavy duty washers, dryers, and mangle iron and must be able to lift 20 lbs.  Flexible work schedule available (25 hours per week).  Hourly rate is $7.00. Technical Director/Designer

The Department of Theatre Arts at Hiram College invites applications for a staff position as Technical Director and Scenic/Lighting Designer.  Duties would include designing sets and lighting for one faculty-directed and one student-directed production per semester and supervising student crews in realizing the designs.  The Technical Director will also teach two full-time classes (or the equivalent) per semester.  These classes will be tailored to the successful candidate’s areas of expertise and particular interests, but may include “Tech Production,” “Scenic Design,” Lighting Design,” or “Introduction to the Theatre.”

MFA and college-level teaching preferred, as well as practical experience in the theatre and shop.  Successful candidates will have a passion for the theatre, and an interest in sharing their knowledge and experience with students in a liberal arts curriculum. This position would be an excellent opportunity for a designer to build a resume of executed designs and expand her or his list of classes taught.

Data Entry Assistant

Hiram College invites applications for the part-time position of Data Entry Assistant for the Development Office. Responsibilities include maintenance of a relational database including biographical record changes, creation of new records, research of missing information and other related duties. Training will be provided, but the position requires strong detail orientation with a computer aptitude, critical thinking skills, a sense of initiative, and an ability to work with a high volume of work in a busy environment. Comparable database experience in an office setting is desirable. A high school diploma is required. This is a part-time position with a maximum of 24 hours per week at $8.25 per hour based on experience and qualifications. The hours are flexible within an 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m. work day.
