Elisabeth Hesse '05
Recipient of the Dr. Arthur Paul Wakefield Scholarship
Elisabeth Hesse '05 is a senior from Moses Lake, Washington. She is a double major in biology and biomedical humanities with a minor in religious studies. Elisabeth is a member of the concert band, Chemistry Club, and the American Institute of Biological Studies organization on campus. She also serves a tour guide for Hiram's admission office and introduces prospective students to the Hiram campus. Elisabeth's other campus activities include membership in the J.J. Turner Society, Alpha Society, and Medicus. She is also a Vencl/Carr Teaching Assistant, a Genetics Lab Teaching Assistant, and a Molecular/Cellular Lab Teaching Assistant.
Elisabeth has participated in three study abroad experiences at Hiram, traveling to Germany, Bhutan, and the Caribbean. She has completed two off-campus internships with the Duquesne Research Program, Emory Research Experience, and one on-campus research experience through a grant obtained by Hiram from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She plans to attend medical school after her graduation from Hiram.
The Dr. Arthur Paul Wakefield Scholarship is awarded to incoming first-year students. This scholarship was established and endowed by the estate of Vachel Lindsay Wakefield '30, in honor of his father, Dr. Arthur Paul Wakefield '00, a dedicated, accomplished, and generous physician. The scholarship is awarded to deserving students pursuing a course of study leading to medical school.
