Career Planning

Hiram College believes strongly in the importance of planning intentionally for the future you want and to make the most of your Hiram education.    Use the PACE (Purposeful Academic and Career Exploration) Plan to  organize your ideas about your interests and skiils, your academic options, and your career-related experiences as you go.  You should receive a  PACE Plan  from your advisor during your Colloquium.  Work on it during the next four years in conversation with your adivsors.  Need another copy?

  • Dowload the PACE Plan and complete it on your computer OR
  • Print a PACE Plan and complete it on paper.

Resources from the menu  to the left can help you complete your PACE Plan.  Contact the Career Center to talk over your ideas with a counselor, check out books from the Career Library or explore internships.

Career-related experience from internships, summer or campus jobs, campus involvement, and community service will help you confirm or reject your ideas and lead you to make plans for graduate school or a first professional job.

Be creative -- don't limit your search to careers associated only with your major. Studying the liberal arts gives you a strong background in a discipline but also prepares you with the transferable skills of an educated person such as critical thinking, strong writing and speaking skill, analytical abilities, team work, and problem-solving as well as the ability to value diversity, understand change, and use technology wisely. These skills are used in a wide variety of interesting careers.

Remember that work is constantly changing. Develop life-long skills in career exploration and career management, and be prepared for a dynamic future.
